Biography
Family life
Denis Aven was born on the 9th of January 1994. He has spent a majority of his life between three different countries: Russia, Great Britain, and the USA.
Marital status: single.
Father — Aven Petr Olegovich, entrepreneur, Chairman of the Board of ABH Holdings fintech company, art collector. Author of numerous scientific papers and articles on economics and trade, quoted by leading media.
Mother — Aven Elena Vladimirovna. Historian by education. Together with her husband Petr Aven she initiated and supported various cultural, educational and health projects in Latvia. They paid special attention to projects in the field of children's health care. In 2008, together with Petr Aven, she established the charitable foundation Generation.[1]
Denis has a twin sister Daria.
Education and training
Studied at Yale University in the United States. Denis graduated with honours in 2016, receiving a bachelor's degree in economics with a mathematical specialisation. He wrote his thesis on the collapse of the Soviet economy under the academic supervision of the famous economist, Professor of Economics Oleg Tsyvinsky.
Four years after graduating from Yale, Aven graduated with honours from Harvard Business School and received an MBA.
The beginning of his career
After graduating from Yale University, Denis Aven began his career as an analyst at Lazard, working on restructuring and capital structure optimization.
Lazard is one of the world's leading financial advisory and asset management firms. It has offices in 43 cities in 27 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Americas. Lazard advises on mergers and acquisitions, strategy, restructuring and other capital transactions. Lazard's New York office occupies thirteen floors of the 30 Rockefeller Plaza skyscraper.
After two years at Lazard, Denis joined the technology team at Warburg Pincus. Warburg Pincus is a global investment firm headquartered in New York City with offices around the world, including the United States, Europe, Brazil, China, Southeast Asia and India.
Denis focuses on investments in the software, data and business services sectors and has been involved in various stages and areas of investment projects, from venture capital to growth and buyouts.
Aven joined 8VC after completing his MBA at Harvard Business School.
8VC is a global and dynamic firm whose investments span a range of industries: logistics, life sciences, healthcare, IT infrastructure, government and defence, financial services, consumer and business services. Starting in 2020, 8VC has been headquartered in Austin.
Travel and hobbies
The Avenov family loves to travel, and Denis has visited many different countries since childhood. According to Denis, he particularly enjoys "immersing myself in different cultures and getting an idea of how different people around the world live".
Denis Aven has travelled to Bhutan, New Zealand, and Chile.
When he is not travelling, Denis Aven likes to play sports: tennis, skiing and golf. He is a great football fan and watches almost every match involving Chelsea FC.
Denis Aven's favourite author is Ernest Hemingway, an American writer and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. He has reread 'The Sun Also Rises' and his other works many times.
However, the young financier has less and less time to read due to his busy work schedule. "My parents always encouraged me to read a lot, and I wish I had more time to do that now that I'm busy with work," says Denis.
